Nordhouse Dunes Hiking Area

Why it’s great for the endurance/multi-day hiker…

Rated at moderate to advanced difficulty, the Nordhouse Dunes Nature area is a challenging terrain area with over 20 miles of hiking trails.  These trails are frequently used by locals to train for endurance hiking trips. You will also frequently find campers along the lakeshore in this area.  The scenery is beautiful.


Best segment(s) for a 2 hours or less hike

Much of the Nordhouse Dunes nature trails cannot be completed in under two hours, however, if starting at the Lake Michigan Recreation area, you can complete the Arrowhead Trail in under 2 hours.  This is the easiest segment of the trails.

Trail Description

Relish in 20 miles of beautiful foot trails along the shores of Lake Michigan.  The trail system is very rugged in spots, so this trail system is not recommended for beginner hikers.  There are also many camping opportunities near the Lake Michigan Recreation Area, or at rustic sites along the trails.
