Why it’s great for the first time hiker…

Old Indian Trail is perfect for those looking for a scenic walk in the woods with flat terrain with quick access to Lake Michigan.  There are two 2.3 mile loops – one that is easy and one that is rated moderate in difficulty.  If you add .2 miles to each loop it will take you directly to Lake Michigan.

Why it’s great for the first time XC skier…

With the trails being fairly wide and flat, this trail is perfect for beginner skiers.  With it being frequently visited by locals and travelers alike, there is usually a backcountry path for classic skiing despite not being officially groomed.


Best segment(s) for a 2 hours or less hike

The Green Arrow Loop is 2.3 miles plus .2 miles to get to Lake Michigan and can be completed in under two hours.

Trail Description

Old Indian Trail has two loops of about 2.5 miles in length. It is also a popular cross country ski and snowshoe trail. Most of the trail runs through maple-beech forest. There is a short hike through the beach dunes to Lake Michigan near the junction of the two loops.

Difficulty: Easy
